Style of Doorknob

A doorknobs appearance is often the deciding factor as homeowners want it to match with a room's overall theme or decor. A simple round knob of a solid color might fit into some environments, while a lever handle with a burnished metal look may be more appropriate for others. Security Options

When it comes to security, there are three main types of doorknobs:

No lock. The simplest design has no locking capabilities at all and offers no added protection.
Simple keyless lock. This design has a lock that can be operated from one side of the door, preventing others from getting through. These are commonly used on bathrooms or bedrooms. In case of emergency, there is usually a small hole or indentation in the knob on the other side allowing access with a small tool if needed.
